Fashion Meets Lifestyle with Maxxology
As a Portsmouth NH photographer, I’m fortunate to work on projects that blend editorial storytelling with commercial precision. Recently, I had the honor of photographing Maxxology, a vibrant local fashion brand—an assignment that stemmed from a feature in Portsmouth City Lifestyle titled Class With a Little Sass. Originally published by City Lifestyle and written by Gail Huff, the article highlights Maxine “Maxx” Graves and her bold vision for fashion in the Seacoast.
Behind the Maxxology Shoot
The Maxxology team came into the project with a clear goal: create photographs that could be used across social media, lookbooks, and print campaigns—fashion-forward but grounded. We selected Seacoast backdrops that echoed the brand’s personality—modern yet approachable. Natural light gave an editorial polish, while carefully placed flashes added refinement.
Fashion shoots are different from architecture or interiors—there’s motion, emotion, and quick adjustments—making them creatively energizing.
Editorial Meets Commercial
One of the challenges—and opportunities—of fashion photography is striking the right balance between artistic storytelling and commercial clarity. For Maxxology, that meant aspirational images rooted in real-life connection.
We emphasized movement, confidence, and individuality while composing clean, versatile frames. The result: a dynamic image library adaptable to evolving marketing needs—editorial in feel, strategic in function.
Why Photography Matters for Brands
Photography isn’t just aesthetic—it’s foundational for brand perception. With this Maxxology shoot, the visuals:
Build trust through polished imagery.
Strengthen identity with consistent, narrative-driven visuals.
Ensure versatility across multiple platforms.
For businesses across Portsmouth and the Seacoast—from designers to lifestyle brands—this approach bridges work and audience experience.
A Collaboration with Style
Every successful shoot is a collaboration, and the Maxxology project brought together an incredible team.
A huge thank you to Anne and Tara at Portsmouth City Lifestyle for the assignment and cover feature. Their trust and vision set the stage for this entire project.
Creative energy came from Max of Maxxology, (@maxxology_)who brought bold ideas and a dynamic presence to the shoot. Jared Michael (@jmichaelstyle) handled styling with precision, ensuring every detail was impeccable and the day ran smoothly. Hair and makeup were beautifully done by Lisa at Opal Luxe Salon (@opalluxesalon), giving each model a polished yet natural look that elevated the final images.
The models — Max, Pauline Slattery, Lisa Michelle, Christian Gamble, and Danielle Kimball — delivered with personality, confidence, and professionalism, making each frame feel alive.
And finally, a big thank you to Portwalk Place for generously allowing us to use their lobby as our location. The space added the perfect touch of sophistication to the shoot.
Working with this team reminded me why collaboration is at the heart of every great project. When creative professionals bring their expertise together, the results go beyond photographs — they become a story worth sharing.
The Maxxology shoot was more than another fashion session—it was a chance to create imagery that speaks confidently, authentically, and strategically. It reaffirmed my approach to every project—fashion, lifestyle, architecture, or interiors—with editorial polish and practical impact.
