REIN & COMPANY: LIVED-IN AND LOVED My debut shoot for Portsmouth City Lifestyle, documenting the soulful designs of Rein & Company. What began as an architectural assignment quickly turned into a narrative study of how a house becomes a home, aided by a perfectly timed New England snowstorm.

THE BACKSTORY

I got incredibly lucky with the timing for this session. A classic winter storm had rolled through the Seacoast the night before, draping the entire property in a pristine, heavy blanket of white just in time for the exterior shots. In architectural photography, you can plan your lighting and your angles for weeks, but you can’t plan for a perfect New England snowstorm. That layer of white provided a clean, high-contrast backdrop that made the home’s structure pop in a way that felt almost cinematic.

Working with the team at Rein & Company was a masterclass in seeing the soul behind the design. My goal for this interior design photography in NH was to capture the sophistication of their remodel without losing the inherent warmth of the family who lives there. We spent the day balancing wide-angle "hero" shots of the rooms with tighter, more intimate editorial frames. This approach allowed us to showcase the textures and small, intentional details that define their "lived-in" philosophy.

This shoot really solidified my ongoing relationship with the magazine and helped me bridge the gap between static architectural photography portfolio work and narrative-driven editorial. It was a reminder that while the building provides the frame, the life inside—and the occasional lucky weather event—provides the soul. Whether I’m shooting a high-end kitchen or a historic Portsmouth exterior, I’m always looking for that 10-second window where the design and the environment finally click together. By the time we wrapped, we had a library of images that felt less like a brochure and more like an authentic story of a home.
