let there be Light
In my architectural and interiors work, it is all about the light. Light doesn't just illuminate a room; it defines the shape and fills the volume of the space. I want you to feel the stillness of a moment, punctuated only by the movement of light passing through the frame.
For me, architectural photography is a study in how a structure breathes. It’s easy to walk into a beautiful room and document the furniture, but my goal is to capture the atmosphere that the architect and builder worked so hard to create. Light defines the shape. It fills the space and creates movement where there is otherwise nothing but stillness. When I’m on a shoot, I’m looking for that "lightning in the veins" moment where the light tells the story of the room’s soul.
I want the viewer to feel like they are standing inside the building in a moment of absolute silence, filled with light. Whether it’s the golden hour hitting the shingled exterior of the Bar Harbor Motel or the precise, clinical glow of a medical imaging suite, the light dictates how we feel about the environment. I want you to see the dust drifting on a ray of sunlight and feel the warmth of the sun passing through a window in a Portsmouth kitchen. This isn't just about documenting a property; it's about inviting the viewer to step into it.
As a hotel photographer in New England, I know that atmosphere is what sells a destination. People don't just book a room for the amenities; they book it for how they imagine they will feel when they wake up there. By focusing on the interplay between natural and artificial light, I can highlight the craftsmanship of a historic site like the Treadwell Mansion or the modern lines of a new development. It’s about honoring the stillness and finding the movement within it. In a world of flat, over-processed imagery, I believe there is still nothing more powerful than a space shown in its most honest, light-filled state.
